Heather Tal Murphy
Hi there! I am an award-winning reporter, editor, producer and media strategist. Throughout my career, I’ve faciliated innovation at companies including The New York Times, NPR and The Washingon Post.
I call this site Love Hate AI because I’ve been experimenting with AI lately and that’s how I feel. I love AI. I hate AI.
Yep, that’s me. Here is my analysis of a huge problem with AI images, my dive into digital doubles and my epic experiment into using AI to date for a friend.

Let’s Work Together!
I got my start in journalism translating Spanish articles into English for the The Santiago Times in Chile. Since then, I’ve held staff roles at The New York Times, NPR, The Washington Post and Variety, among other outlets. Recently, after completing a program at UCLA Anderson School of Management, I decided to take a sabbatical from writing to learn more about AI and product design.
I’m still open to consulting and freelance assignments as a writing/reporting coach, editor and media strategist. My specialities include crafting stories that people want to talk about and making complex topics accessible. I relish applying a start-up founder approach to developing new products, workflows, series, and story formats. In general, I enjoy helping and collaborating with other journalists, so feel free to reach out!
